Ducati released the legendary 750 F1 in 1985 (essentially a replica of the Pantah-based TT racers) with a real road-racer look thanks to the alloy fuel tank, remote oil cooler, two-in-one exhaust system, floating discs and mono-shock suspension.

The F1 Santamonica was the last of 3 'Specials' produced by Ducati.
Capitalising on the success of its existing air-cooled, two-valve 750 F1 model by releasing a series of hand-built, limited edition race replicas: The Montjuich, the Laguna Seca and the Santamonica.
The Santamonica celebrating Lucchinelli's win in the 1986 opening round of the World TT Formula at the Misano Autodoromo Santamonica was the final of these 3 specials.

It is the last of the distinguishably loud Ducati air cooled variants and considered by many to be the best looking of the iconic F1 series.
They all came with a massive performance upgrade over the already highly regarded standard F1 (+20hp) and was rated as a far superior version over standard with engine, chassis and brake upgrades.

4 stroke 90" L twin
Desmodromic (2 valves / cylinder)
40mm Forcella Italia Front Forks
Marzocchi Rear
4 Piston Brembo Brakes Callipers
Fully Floating Discs front and rear
Dell'Orto Carburretors
Verlicchi Exhaust
Marvic / Akront Split Rim 16" Wheels (as seen on the Montjuich but not the Laguna Seca)
Just 159 kg dry weight

In 1986, F1 crankcases were strengthened, valve sizes were increased, straight-cut gears now drove a hydraulically activated dry clutch, and the gearbox itself was beefed up. With a healthy near 95hp (9000 rpm) at the rear wheel, the 750 F1 Santamonica was capable of well over 140mph.

Cycle magazine summed up the series when it said, 'the F1 allows a very competent street rider to understand how a race bike feels because the engine will inspire him rather than intimidate him.' It concluded the F1s were the last true fundamental Ducatis and the Santamonica perhaps the one of the three specials that best married up the fine balance between full race bike and useable road machine.

The Santamonica represents the end of an era at Ducati that encompassed a true racing spirit.
It was one of the most exclusive motorcycles of its time and today is highly prized by Ducati collectors.
Undoubtedly a great investment opportunity.
