Virginio Ferrari's Formula One World Championship victory in 1987 aboard the Martini-designed, Yamaha FZ750-engined YB4ie didn't just bring Bimota its most important racing success, it also sparked a string of roadsters powered by the bigger 20-valve lump from the FZR1000. These roadsters were followed by more models including the Dieci ("Ten") In 1991 came the best and fastest yet: the Furano, powered by the latest 1002cc EXUP motor, and kicking out a claimed 164bhp.
Made from 1991 to 1994 but in very low numbers, the Yamaha-Bimota 1000 removes some of the compromise from the FZR 1000R "bike of the decade". Relieved of the biposto seat, the Dieci's aluminum beam frame and beautiful bodywork does conceal 20 valves and Yamaha's servo-controlled exhaust valve system which widens the torque curve. South of the twin 38mm Mikunis, the liquid-cooled liter escapes via 4-into-1 exhaust. 5-speed transmission to get you going, dual 320mm front disks and 280mm rear bring things back into focus. Billet frame connections, triple-tree, and brackets are a joy. Upside-down Marzocchi front forks are complemented by an Ohlins rear shock, all three-way adjustable
This particularly beautiful and ultra low mileage Bimota Dieci was first registered in Italy on 18.5.92 and was the private bike of the owner of Ducati Padova who kept it up until 2009, when it was sold to a German collector - Hr Hartwig Meinem. Due to a back injury Hr Meinem was forced to downsize his motorcycle collection. In 2014 the Bimota was sold to an English collector who imported it to the UK.
